Just ran across this thread. It's always a debate as to whether it's better to go DYI or buy off the shelf. A few years ago I ran across Rich Boren's sailing blog on sv Third Day. Having worked in the industry building huge units for factories, he built his own unit producing 50gph. After two years of use he only had to replace one failed hose. He now sells them through Cruiser RO Watermaker. For 5k you get a 30gph unit driven by a 1hp 110volt AC motor @15amps. This is a no frills system operated totally manually thus eliminating sensors and electronics that will fail at some point. In addition, all parts are off the shelf, no special product runs ie. membranes which jack up the costs. Good luck with your decision.

The difference is even less than $1000 so not an argument in the long run. You will for get the price before the quality or something like that was said to me once.

You bet, but a labour of love. We have installed a 3000w Xantrex inverter and a diesel heater, even with the ease of access in the 380 it takes a lot of crawling throughtight spaces. Also working on mounting solar panels on davits, did you install any?.

Hi, we have a 2009 380S2 on Lake Ontario and just bought the 120 amp alternators and kits from Electromaax for both engines, really appreciate the detailed info on the install. Also purchased their RO 20 gph watermaker trying to decide where to install. Now working on AIS install ready for cruising to Carribean this fall.
