Bahia Los Frailes too short of a visit.

After escaping Cabos, we arrived to beautiful Bahia Los Frailes, more boats were there compared to any other anchorage but we found a spot without trouble. We are becoming adept of the anchoring without engine, positive outcome of a negative situation. We were in the water in no time and on the beach for a walk. Plan was made to have other cruisers for a drink; life is how it’s supposed to be. We had decided to leave later in the week to make a run for La Paz and pick Emma up. Until a small detail derail all those nice prediction for our future?

For the first time since Ensenada, our Banda Ancha (internet stick) was not providing service on the boat. Usually even in the most remote village, you can hook up to an analog signal and slowly download your e-mail and get weather. In bigger city it’s 3G quality, which makes our life easy. So we reverted to the Ham Radio, and asked our dear daughter to send her confirmation of flight on the winlink e-mail, it was just the third day in a row… in order to arrange her pickup! Well, to our amazement she answered with a file attached… Only problem being: to download this file it would have taken 8 hours! So now we were shot out of any communication means, and most importantly no ability to get our weather predictions. Lesson learned we will have to ensure somebody on land can access that account and delete any blocking message, thank you Emma you just “volunteered” for this noble task.

Decision had to be made; the tow strike rule: “go or no go”?

-We only have one prop hanging in there, which makes us a little more nervous than usual…

-There is a 120 Nautical miles to La Paz with some stronger currents than usual…

-The wind is supposed to rise from the North any days, which means we will have to beat it in the nose…

-We have a deadline to be nice (the last one for a while), and a bit more pressure than usual…

-We haven’t arranged pick up from the airport, we are still waiting for a confirmed schedule.

As you may have guessed by now the executive decision was made: We have to get closer and regain communication ability. Sorry to part with you Los Frailes, it’s only to get to know you better later on, you have beautiful sandy beaches, and a great hike we can do.
