We are real sailor, we ran aground today!!!

We decided to relax today, and try to forget the chaos of the process of buying a boat. For this we took our trusted racing catamaran out with our son. Sunny day, 12-14 knots steady from the east, and little swell what else can we ask for?

To be fair, we haven’t been out a lot this year, so once the rust was off, we really enjoyed ourselves. We alternated from racing the large monohull, to downwind in the sun to take in the scenery and the soothing no apparent wind, our son was on trapeze for a while. This brings us to an end of a beam reach a little closer to beach than the previous one. We have been there  lots of time and knew, well thought we knew, that we had enough depth to go around the buoy.

I must confess, our 13 year old son warned us, I admit it (is that enough for you?). Being a full fledged teenager, he knows everything. This is when we came to a rather quick stop and realized that we had touched ground, luckily we were still far away, although outside the buoy and we shouldn’t have. ” Well done Dad! I told you guys….”

In the bright side we were getting ready to tack and were coming into the wind, the boat had started to decelerate! So one  dagger board was firmly stuck in the sand, we raised the closest one to shore and pivoted on the other one helped by the wind.

So here it is, I can officially now said that I have run aground, on a boat and I was responsible for it. Tide tables anybody? Once again : “yes! Son you were right.”
